This Canon EF-Thou Mount Adapter lets any EF or EF-S lens mount and work perfectly on EOS-M cameras.
It works with all Canon autofocus lenses made since 1987. I tried with a 1980s EF 50mm f/ane.viii which worked perfectly, also as the archetype EF 35mm f/1.iv Fifty and the hot new EF 24-70mm f/4 IS.
Autofocus, Image Stabilization, automatic aperture command and total and consummate EXIF information transfer all work flawlessly, which means they work exactly equally if they were native EF-One thousand lenses.
Compatibility and Formats
This merely works to conform traditional Canon EF and EF-south lenses to Catechism'south new EOS-M series of cameras.

Catechism calls this the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS Thou.
EF means "electronic focus," meaning that there is an autofocus motor in the lens itself. All Canon lenses since 1987 have been EF. These are the lenses which attach to the front.
EOS-Grand ways that information technology adapts these lenses to an EOS-M camera fastened to the dorsum.

Every bit covered above, all data, Paradigm Stabilization, apertures and autofocus all work perfectly with this adapter. Canon'southward EF lenses have e'er communicated, focused, stopped down and operated purely electrically, so information technology's no big deal that Canon was able to engineer this adapter to let the big lenses work flawlessly on the smaller cameras.
Of course autofocus functioning is express by the EOS-M cameras.
The adapter is very, very tough. Information technology's all metal; non some plastic-bodied piece of crap. Catechism knows others will come out with copy-crap products, and this one is built like a tank as it should be.
The serial number is engraved in black on the barrel nigh the photographic camera'due south mountain.
The all-metal tripod pes unscrews.

This adapter is congenital tough. I'm sure at that place will be crummy ones sold for a few dollars direct from Prc over eBay, withal my experience with those sorts of adapters has been that they are not made to tight enough mechanical tolerances and then that infinity focus is a hair off, and therefore that most lenses with internal focus or zooms will never operate at peak functioning. Also, re-create products will never feel as adept, work as smoothly or exist as well congenital.
If you're a hobbyist, who cares, but if you do this for a living, $200 is well worth information technology non to waste whatever time with substandard products. (See Is It Worth It.)

There are simply a few lenses native to the Canon EOS-M. To utilise any other lenses, you demand this adapter.
The native EOS-M lenses are much smaller than whatever other lens used with this adapter. Don't get this adapter to utilise an old EF-Due south 18-55mm lens; the combo is also big, and the EF-South 18-55 isn't every bit expert optically as the native EF-M eighteen-55mm lens.
Unlike most other adapters offered by other camera makers, Canon is the only camera maker with all-electronic lenses worthy of adapting both erstwhile and new (Nikon's lenses still use mechanical diaphragm linkages from the 1950s, and Fuji never made whatsoever electronic SLR lenses, for case). Every other camera maker's adapters are kludges which lose a lot of features since the older lenses beingness adjusted employ more archaic technology than Canon'southward EOS arrangement. This EOS-M adapter is flawless considering Catechism's EOS system is so well integrated; Canon's all-electronic EOS system of 1987 was decades ahead of its fourth dimension.
